Perseverance

In 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, he was expected to go beyond expectations. Yet he only came home empty handed. Only with the feeling of accomplishment that he went to the Olympics. Athens 2004 he won 6 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. Proving himself to the world one medal at a time. By now he had four world records, people were beginning to realize that he was going to be a rising star. Only that star rose higher than ever, in 2008. About a year before the Beijing Olympics he told the world that on 8/8/08, the start of the Olympics, he was going to win 8 gold medals. His dream was on the verge of being accomplished after the first six events. Then there was event 7, the men's 100m butterfly. The race started with Milorad Cavic in the lead for most of the race until the very last seconds. It came down to the very last 10m of the race Cavic was about 1/2 a body length ahead of him. Cavic decided to glide into the wall, but lane four took one more stroke. That one more stroke boosted him .01 second faster than Cavic, Phelps won the 100m 50.58, and Cavic 50.59. Then later his realy won and he won all 8 gold medals. He did what no one thought could be done before.
