Envision yourself sitting in an apple tree right before sunrise, looking over the lake. As a slight breeze sways the tree you feel whole inside. This is my perfect place at my Great Grandpa Erv’s cottage in Door County. Anyone could come here and feel peaceful and adventurous at the same time.
If your feeling adventurous up at Erv’s there are almost too many things to do. Just for starters you can climb up the apple tree and pick a delicious, ripe, and juicy apple. Then take an exquisite walk in the marsh , and find eerie animals. After that you can ignite the engine in the boat and roar off to are island. Out on the island and in the bay there are many great hunting and fishing spots. Another good spot to hunt is in the large and vast side yard that we have. It is great to hunt squirrels and chipmunks
Then again maybe your feeling more like being relaxed and at peace. First thing you can sleep in late under the worm and cozy electric blanket. Next get out of bed, watch and listen to the birds twittering outside, while enjoying a pleasant home cooked breakfast. After that you can go outside and sit in the hammock and just sway in the breeze. When you’re ready to get up, take a walk down to bottom of the pier and skip stones. Later that night you can start a crisp fire and roast marshmallows and make s’morz under the night stars.
On a rainy day don’t be down there are many fun things to do inside too! One thing you can do is sit back in the recliner and just take a nice long relaxing nap. Up North we have tons of cards in one big drawer. There are various games you can play including chess, checkers, zonk, and all card games. You can also sit in the porch bed and watch the waves smack the shore fearlessly. All of the couch pillows and blankets all add up to the perfect fort. No one can breach your walls of cotton wool! Then if you have exactly no energy you can sit back and watch basic cable.
People of any age could come here and have fun no matter what is going on in their outside world, but here. Erv’s cabin in Door County and all its wondrous attributes will always be my favorite place.
